Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an inventory of products I can browse and shop from?
We have a small inventory of products we sell at pop-up events in major U.S. cities. Your Maya expert may recommend a piece from our inventory based on your timing and design requirements, but we love helping our clients produce one-of-a-kind pieces.
How much should I expect to spend on a piece from Maya?
Maya prides itself on being able to partner with clients on luxury jewelry pieces across a wide budgetary range. A simple piece for everyday wear can start as low as $800 while a more elaborate project, such as an engagement ring, could be much more expensive.
Can I purchase a piece that is pictured on your website or Instagram?
We can certainly recreate pieces that we have pictured online! Most of our items are made-to-order, so the final price will be dependent on factors like the current price of gold and the cost of any stones used to produce the piece.
What kinds of materials are used to craft Maya jewelry and how do they influence the price of a piece from Maya?
We specialize in custom pieces made from precious metals, natural and lab-grown diamonds, and natural, treated, and lab-grown gemstones, and each of these materials can have different cost implications.
Precious Metals
- Gold: Maya can customize any piece in yellow, rose, or white gold. The price of gold is calculated by its weight and karats (i.e. the purity of the gold). Your Maya Expert will recommend the level of gold karats based on your desired design; for example, 14 Kt gold (58.3% pure gold and 41.7% other alloys) is often a better choice to create secure prongs for diamonds and gemstones.
- Platinum: Platinum is a rare yet durable metal that maintains its color for a lifetime. It tends to have a higher price than gold.
- Silver: Silver has a lower level of alloys than gold, so it is softer but more affordable than gold.
Natural Diamonds & Gemstones
Natural diamonds and gemstones are mined, and they are evaluated and priced based on cut, clarity, color, and carat.
- Cut: The stone’s proportions, polish, and symmetry, which impact how sparkly the stone appears
- Clarity: The stone’s absence of internal inclusions and surface blemishes
- Color: The color of the stone. For diamonds, this refers to the lack of color, as the perfect diamond is colorless while others may contain a slight tint of color. Stones like emeralds, sapphires, and rubies are categorized based on specific colors and are sometimes heat-treated to improve overall appearance.
- Carat: The stone’s weight, where one carat equals 0.2 grams. Naturally occurring, larger stones are priced higher since they are discovered less frequently; carats are not priced linearly.
Lab-Grown Diamonds & Gemstones
Lab-grown stones are produced using precise technology that replicates the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as mined diamonds. Because they are manufactured instead of found, they are less rare and thus, much less expensive; typically, a lab-grown diamond will be one fifth the price of the same quality natural diamond. For lab-grown diamonds, Maya recommends H or I color (lowest color grades where the tint of color is not visible to the naked eye) and VS / SI clarity (lowest clarity grade where inclusions are not visible to the naked eye) to balance affordability and quality. Lab-grown emeralds and sapphires typically have more consistent color and less inclusions.

How can I be sure I’ll love my final Maya piece?
We are confident that our consultative design process will result in a piece that you love. We’ll make sure to get your approval on the final design (before moving to production) as well as the final product (before shipping from India to the U.S.). Your product won’t ship to you until your Maya expert has completed a final quality check in the U.S. to make sure the product accurately reflects the piece you designed together. However, if you aren’t satisfied with the piece once you receive it, you will be able to work with your Maya expert on adjustments or a full return. Your Maya expert will make sure you understand our terms and conditions throughout the process and especially before you make any payments.
How do I pay for my final product?
We may collect a deposit before moving to production depending on the total value and the uniqueness of the piece; the deposit is intended to cover our costs for special sourcing or manufacturing needs. We will collect full payment prior to shipping. We accept all major credit cards as well as money transfers, and your Maya expert will work with you on the most convenient method for you.
Does Maya have a lifetime guarantee?
Yes, we do! Our partner in India, Veda Diamonds, has been making high-quality jewelry for hundreds of global clients since 2015, so we’re confident you’ll love your bespoke jewelry. However, a bit of wear and tear is expected, especially if you are wearing your jewelry often! We’ll help connect you with trusted local jewelers for repairs or cleanings throughout the lifetime of your piece and we’ll cover the cost.
